Can I use Bio Fuels in my BMW? A.
Pure 100% Bio-Diesel cannot be used in any BMW standard engine. This statement is located in the Owners Handbook, under the index heading "Fuel Grade". Diesel Engine: Contact BMW Emergency Services if the wrong fuel has been added. Your BMW engine is rated to run on: Diesel oil to DIN EN 590 standard and requires that all fuel used in diesel engines must meet the European Standard (BS EN 590:2000). This allows for a maximum blend of 5% renewable bio-diesel, in 95% ordinary ultra low sulphur diesel (ULSD). The properties of a diesel fuel with a bio-content of up to 5 % are the same as those of conventional diesel fuel, which means that there is no effect on their suitability for use in BMW diesel engines. Diesel fuel in accordance with EN 590 with a bio-content of up to 5% should not be confused with pure bio-diesel. Pure bio-diesel, or blends containing more than 5% bio-diesel, must not be used, as this will lead to detrimental effects on the fuel system or engine. Problems may exhibit themselves with poor Starting, rough running, and could eventually lead to a non start situation. BioEthanol Fuel: The BioEthanol (E85) is intended as a fuel for suitably adapted vehicles. It is not an alternative to unleaded petrol and not intended for use in diesel engined vehicles. The available information relating to BioEthanol (E85) suggests that it should be only used in 'Flex-Fuel Vehicles', which are specially adapted to cope with the fuel's corrosive properties. This is indicated on the fuel pump nozzle. BMW does not produce any vehicles that can run exclusively on BioEthanol fuel. Q.
